The Apple Watch is neither a piece of jewelry, nor something that will just show you the time (something people stopped caring about wearing nearing 2 decades ago). Is that something worth it or not? Is that something a mass-market item? That's the question to ask.
An old school Casio is a great choice. I've had a F91W for ages and the battery last years. Cheap too.

My watch of choice remains the OG Casio F-91W, unchanged since its June 1989 introduction (35+ years!)[1] and still available today for the very nice price of $16.88[2]. They recently added Pink, Blue, Clear, Gold, White, Grey, and Green versions.
